Everyday Beauty Tips For Real Women

When it comes to perfecting my makeup I know I can use all the beauty tips and techniques I can get. Below are a few tips that can get you on your way to a beautiful you and hope you will find them useful!

Blush: The correct color for your skin tone and properly applying blush as part of your makeup routine can add so much to enhance and accentuate your facial features.

Below are a few suggestions based on skin tone:

- Beige and pink tones are appropriate for fair skin
- Warm, brown shades are appropriate for yellow-tones skin
- Plum, bronze shades are appropriate for dark skin
- Orange, apricot and coral shades are appropriate for sun-tanned skin

The soft tones: apricot, peachy, pink are appropriate for everyday use

Cool-toned Asian use a natural looking pink blush

Tip to make a round face look longer and well defined:

Purchase a blush palette which enhances your skin tone. The palette should consist of a dark tone, medium tone and light tone. Apply the darkest tone just below the check bones; even if not prominent at this time. Do not apply past the corner of the outer eye. Apply the medium shade and blend well all the way to the hairline. Finally, highlight the check bones with the lightest shade. You should see that your round face will look naturally thinner and has an apparent glow.

Additionally, a blush palette will add dimension which can not be achieved with just one ordinary color.

Eye Liner: Don't have a steady hand, it is not necessary to paint a continuous line with liquid eyeliner. Start with small dashes on the lash line. Start at inner corner, then middle and out towards the outer corner. Then go back and connect the dashes. For droopy eyes thicken the eye liner at the outer corner.

Raccoon proof your eyeliner by using liquid eyeliner. Liquid eyeliners can hold up to 24 hours!

Lipstick: Selecting the perfect color can be frustrating. What looks good in the store doesn't always look good when you get it home. Here are a few tips that can alleviate having a drawer full of lipsticks that you bought and didn't like.

The most flattering lip color will be one or two shades darker than your natural lip color. So to find the right shade apply a color to just one lip and compare it to your bare lip, if it is one to two shades darker than your bare lip, then you have found your color. You can do this at the store just by looking in the mirror and place the lipstick tube color up against your lip in the mirror.

Fair skinned women - consider shades such as nudes in an apricot, pinks and light corals.

Medium skin tone - go a bit darker with roses, mauves and berries. Skip the bright reds and try a deep burgundy.

Dark or black skin should consider deep plum, chocolate and red.

Everyone can wear red if you consider the undertones - for instance, pink-skinned girls can wear cherry red, olive skin can wear fire-engine red and dark skin looks good in deep reds.

Application: Start on the natural top lip line with your lip pencil and work outwards in short light strokes. Begin on the bottom lip in the center of the mouth. Next apply your lipstick inside the lip line from your lipstick or lip brush.

To give the illusion of fuller lips, add a dab of shimmery lip gloss that is one shade lighter than your lipstick.

Eye Shadow

Deep-set eyes - to enhance your eyes apply a light shimmery shade across the eyelid from the inner corner to just beyond the out corner.

Wide-set eyes - you can create the illusion of closeness by applying a deep shadow shade from the inner corner to the middle of the eyelid. Then apply a lighter shade from the middle eyelid to the outer corner and blend where the shades meet.

Close-set eyes - to create an illusion to appear wider, apply light pale shade from the inner corner to the middle of the eyelid. Then apply a slightly darker shade from the middle of the eyelid to the outer corners and blend where the two shades meet.

For those with glasses - play up lashes with rich black mascara. Take the time to define your eyebrows, your brows should frame your eyes not your frames.

Asian - apply a thick smoky line along the top lashes. The line should be thick enough so that it can be seen when eyes are open. Also apply a thin line under the bottom lashes.

Eye Shadow Color:

Primers are super hot right now because they help set makeup that stays for hours. I've found the secret to keeping shadow in place for hours is a shadow base, or primer.

Shimmery eye shadow is gorgeous and makes eyes really pop, however it does play up wrinkles and creases.

Blue Eyes - Gray, violet, deep blue or taupe can add depth to your blue eyes. If using a blue shade, select a blue slightly darker that your eye color, it will make your blue eyes even brighter. If using bright colors do so sparingly.

Brown Eyes - Brown eyed girls who want to go for a classic look should stick metallic colors like bronze, copper or champagne and can also safely try browns, beige or khaki. If they want to add a little flair to their face, they can be bold and try tangerine, hot pink, lime or royal blue.

Green/Hazel Eyes - use shades of brown, apricot, purple, plum, khaki or pine green. These colors can brighten green or hazel eyes and are ideal for all times of the day.

Eye Makeup for All Eye Colors

There are a few eye shadow colors appropriate for any eye color. For a classic look, ladies of any eye color can try navy, charcoal, or silver. Silver can work to highlight the eye and brow areas and accentuate those who find their eyes are their best feature.

Blending is the key to great looking eyes if you are using a three color palette. Start with a light base and color the entire eyelid and up to the brow. Secondly apply a highlighter for the crease and then the darkest color on the lid.

When applying dark shadow to the crease of your eye, be careful to blend only on the outside edge.

Mascara: The application of mascara is a three step process:

Start at the base of the lashes and wiggle the wand left to right. It is the roots of the lashes that give the illusions of length not the tips.

Wiggle the wand as you apply the mascara. It separates the lashes and avoids clumps.

The final step and one I always forget is to close the eye and place the mascara wand on top of the lashes working from the base to the tips.

To keep lashes from clumping there are a couple of options. One is a lash comb and they are a great invention and used by makeup artists to get glob free and perfectly separated lashes. The other option is to wipe the mascara wand with a tissue and run the wand over your lashes.

Consider a colored mascara - Basically black works for everyone but can be harsh on light-skinned blondes. Blondes should opt for brown/black by day and reserve black for night. Blue mascara brightens blue eyes while purple mascara makes brown eyes pop.

Lastly but certainly not least - Smile - it gives you a natural glow. Furthermore, great looking makeup starts with a great looking skin. Remember to cleanse, exfoliate, tone and moisturize for a well hydrated dewy complexion.

Life and Work Balance applies to the Beauty Industry Too!

It was interesting to observe the focus of the SalonLife'07 Forum, which will take place July 16-17 in Vegas by the National Cosmetology Association will continue to focus on Life Balance, Personal Finance, Health & Wellness and Energy and Connection. These are things not normally highlighted in the Cosmetology industry and even with this venture the concentration, as always, is on the Salon and Spa Owner. But, I think the trends are moving slowing in the direction of the beauty professional. The big question is WHY? Why is the primary focus on those who own a salon or own a spa? Does that mean that every hair stylist, manicurist, esthetician and spa therapist works for a salon or spa owner?

Well that's the approach taken by the industry to date. I for one, being a CPA and CFO for several companies before starting my own company, don't understand why these beauty professionals do not think of themselves as business owners. Certainly if they rent a station or work on commission they truly work for themselves, don't they?

Make no mistake, the big money is in the salon, that's where the products are purchased and our major suppliers control the industry media. But what of the individual in this industry?

In 2003 the NCA determined that there were over 1.6 million cosmetologists working in salons and spas across this country. That's a very large audience that is primarily focused, by the industry, on the latest styles, color theory, product blends and so on.

I believe the time has come to focus on teaching them how to be a good business person. We need to teach them how to manage their finances, increase their hourly profit, farm for more customers, up sell product, end the no shows, manage their customer database, contact customers they think they may have lost and so on. This is a very valuable lesson for each and every cosmetologist out there. Paradigm Shift in the making? Yes, to have a cosmetologist answer the question: "Who do you work for" without them naming the salon or spa they work at is a paradigm shift for sure!

They need to answer "I work for myself!" They must learn to distinguish where they work at from who they work for. This will only come with training, information flow and focus on the individual, not the salon.

I contend that if they can be exposed to tools and training such as SalonLife'07, client management software, business education and communication daily , the paradigm shift will occur.

If they can see that business tools can be focused on them instead of the salon, amazing things can happen. They can improve their ability to advertise, relate to their current customers and contact their customers with automated interactive email reminders to manage their work calendar. They will begin to see themselves as self sufficient income creators and yes, business persons.

The theory that the only way to make money is to open your own salon is yesterday's approach. Today, you can rent a station or two, hire your own assistant's create more hourly income for yourself and not spend the cost of running the salon, just run your operation within the salon.

No one person, tool or software product can make this happen all at once. It's going to take getting traction to the programs. Its going to take the realization that yes, even the cosmetologist needs to understand a computer, not just a paper calendar and index cards with customer names on them. It's going to take moving the beauty professional into the 21st Century!

So, I would like to challenge all the salon and spa owners to look at their crew and ask themselves "How can I make them better business people?" The answer is let them be their own business person, bring clients to the salon and spa with their own business skills and tools , manage their calendars efficiently and effectively and make everyone more money! Salon and Spa owners need to partner with their beauty professional rather than "employ" them. Take a chance, you never know what you might find... maybe true success.

You Can'T Be Beautiful Unless You'Re Healthy

So you want to be beautiful. But how does one achieve true inner and outer beauty? The first step to achieving true beauty is really quite simple. To be beautiful on the outside, you must make sure you're beautiful and healthy on the inside. This is why it's of utmost importance to take care of your body's physical health, your inner health, along with your mind and inner self.

Outer beauty truly is directly related to inner health and wellness. You can't have one without the other, so it's best to take a pro-active approach to your physical, mental and emotional health to be able to achieve that outer "glow" of beauty that has become so desired in today's society. But make sure you're realistic. You aren't achieving outer beauty if your objective is simply to LOOK more beautiful.

True outer beauty comes with a sense of acceptance of self, a true peaceful spirit and a lack of obsession over physical appearance. One can't be beautiful if they are obsessed with being beautiful. If you try to use and follow every beauty tip you've ever come across or are told, then you won't succeed in becoming beautiful- you'll only drive yourself crazy in the attempt to achieve beauty.

Society's obsession with beauty is based on the superficial, and those who are beautiful and healthy tend to not be noticed as often. As unfair as it may be, it's even more unfair to worry yourself to death or obsess over it. Developing an obsessing or striving for perfection will damage your physical and mental health, sometimes to the point of no return.

While outer beauty is a good goal, something nice to strive for- it shouldn't be the entire basis of any health regimen you follow, nor should it become all you focus on. Embracing your own differences and those of others around you is key to being healthy, happy and beautiful. But you can't embrace your differences if you obsess and view those differences negatively.

If your nose is "too big" or "too small," recognize that it's a difference that makes you who you are. If you feel you're "too heavy" or "too thin," realize that you are who you are. Simply strive to live as healthily as possible, and don't fret about the rest. If you find yourself overweight- living healthy, eating properly, and getting enough rest will work wonders and eventually your body will find itself going towards the weight it needs to be.

And of course, you should always try to get enough sleep each night. Don't over-exert yourself physically or mentally, and make sure you're eating healthy meals and drinking plenty of water. Proper rest, physical activity and nutrition are of utmost importance for both your physical health and your outer beauty. Your mental health is also helped by maintaining proper nutrition and a good sleeping schedule.

Outer beauty is directly related to inner health, whether it is physical, mental or emotional. You can't be beautiful unless you are healthy. It's much more important to make sure you are healthy and well rested than worrying about the size of your nose or your body. Take care of your inner self first, and the outer self will glow because of your inner health and well-being. That's true beauty.

Health Is Internal Beauty

Excerpted from the book "Your Right to Be Beautiful: How to Halt the Train of Aging and Meet the Most Beautiful You" by Tonya Zavasta. The book is available at: http://www.beautifulonraw.com

Jean Kerr, American author and playwright wrote: “I’m tired of all this nonsense about beauty being only skin-deep. That’s deep enough. What do you want an adorable pancreas?"

Jean Kerr was closer to the truth than she might have realized. Every outside organ of the human body is eligible to be called beautiful, but because internal organs are ordinarily seen only by surgeons, they get excluded from the beauty contest. If our internal organs were observed, we would describe them in terms of attractiveness, and normal color and shape would be considered beautiful. You need only compare pictures of normal healthy internal organs with pictures of their infected and diseased counterparts in the medical books to convince yourself that health and beauty are synonymous.

A healthy colon looks like evenly braided muscles. On the other hand, unhealthy colons are deformed: twisted and looped in some parts, ballooned and engorged in others, as revealed by barium X-rays. Visit a colon therapist, if only to observe the pictures of unhealthy colons and see for yourself how ugly one can be on the inside.

The blood of a healthy person is also beautiful. The red blood cells are uniformly round. The blood of a body full of toxins is contaminated with pathological bacteria, abnormal proteins, and parasites. When red blood corpuscles clump together, the condition is called Rouleau or “sticky” blood. Rouleau, this clumpy, unattractive blood, appears 5 to 20 years before symptoms of illness present themselves. It is an early messenger of hundreds of degenerative diseases. Conglomerates of red blood cells cannot access the fine capillaries of the body. Rouleau is particularly damaging to the organs of the head, in particular the eyes, ears, and scalp. A diet high in meat and dairy products increases the stickiness of your platelets. Blood that becomes sticky is a sure precursor of blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks.

The arterial pipelines in a healthy circulatory system are clean and clear from obstructions. In healthy arteries, the inner lining, called the intima, is smooth, supple, and without cracks. A cross-section of a normal coronary artery shows no arterial thickening or blood-blocking plaque deposits.

An unhealthy circulatory system paints an entirely different picture. The middle muscular layer of the artery can no longer fully recoil after a pulse wave has expanded the vessel. Elasticity of the artery walls is reduced, and cracks and hollows appear. They catch calcium, cholesterol deposits, fat accumulations, and clusters of platelets. Cholesterol deposits roughen the inner surfaces and damage the walls of the arteries. At first, plaque build-up does not cause discomfort--it is just ugly. But later, thick, clogged bloodstream results in coronary arteries becoming occluded with fatty buildup, which effects circulation and causes deterioration of the connective tissues. Deterioration and abnormal hardening of the arteries result in a process called arteriosclerosis and may cause heart disease, stroke, and hypertension.

The body often displays real ingenuity faced with substances it cannot metabolize or eliminate. It breaks them down and distributes them to remote areas of the body away from vital organs to minimize harm. The body takes the poisons out-of-the-way but not necessarily out of sight. The toxic wastes are pushed towards the peripheral organs, which happen to be the skin and every other organ that we can see on the outside.

External deformities are direct manifestations of internal pathologies. Ugly ropes of varicose veins, puffy faces, and cellulite are telling tales about your inside condition. Every pimple, psoriasis, or pigment change on your skin is in fact a reflection of some organ struggling to do its job. Every bulge, boil, or swelling is a sign that the body is pushing out some toxins in its effort to protect itself.

The term “natural beauty” has been misused and abused beyond restoration. Because there is no natural beauty without 100% natural food, the beauty that will emerge on the raw food diet I call Rawsome Beauty. Our external beauty is at its best when our internal organs are in the best possible shape, form, and color. Beautiful is not something extra the body needs: to be beautiful both inside and out is the natural state of one’s body.

The vitality of internal organs, working properly, transcends your skin and brings a radiance to your face. This is when beauty does penetrate the skin. So when we admire sparkling eyes, fabulous skin, and lustrous hair, in a way we are admiring the teamwork of a healthy liver, colon, kidneys, etc. How profound the direct meaning of the phrase "beauty comes from within" really is.

Health and beauty are considered to be chronological losses. In my books I will convince you they don’t have to be. It is biologically possible to look beautiful at any age. I intend to prove that beauty is not an accident; beauty is your birthright, it can be yours through the right daily choices, food you put in your mouth being the most important one. You can dramatically improve your appearance and do it 100 percent on your own without expensive products, plastic surgery or costly cosmetics.

Natural Beauty – Natural Skin Care

What is the secret to beauty and maintaining a youthful complexion? The answer to this is truly not as complex as one might believe. There are those who obsess with the desire for 'perfection' and will go to great lengths chasing it, especially now that we have the nip & tuck beauty club & botox brigade at our disposal. For those of who are yet to succumb and I’m afraid we are becoming fewer and fewer, please read on.

I recently had the opportunity of listening to a presentation by Geraldine Cox of her plight to save Cambodian orphans from their war torn past. Many of the children she cares for have suffered severe disfigurement at the hands of the cruelty of war and as innocent pawn's forced into slavery for fear of starvation. With someone to love and care for them they have been transformed into thriving, happy children.

Having had first-hand experience with patients suffering from life threatening illnesses, I know that instilling faith in the knowledge that everything is already perfect is crucial to their acceptance of what is happening. By projecting calm loving thoughts and positive outcomes one can have a miraculous effect upon any individual. This unwavering faith can profoundly change one’s life path from fear of death and loss to bringing about a miraculous recovery in severely immuno-suppressed patients.

You may be forgiven for wondering what the heck all this has to do with beauty and maintaining a youthful complexion. Quite simply, one needs to care for themselves in the same loving way as you would care for another. And so this how your Natural Beauty Regime should start.

1. By caring about yourself as well as those around you. In other words take care in everything you say and do. If you exploit others for your own greed and satisfaction or act carelessly with your belongings then how do you think that reflects on your relationships? What kind of person do you think would find this behaviour attractive? 2. Focus on achieving balance in your day to day affairs and allow peace to enter. When your body and mind has peace and calm, stress is removed from the equation. Take time to pamper yourself a little. An holistic massage that relaxes and activates your own natural healing force can be incredibly calming allowing lightness and joy to enter. You will then know to what extent you were stressed in the first place and how, with a little effort and common sense health can reveal itself.

3. You are what you eat as well as what you think. If you continue to fill yourself with processed food then your body will surely suffer. There are very few minerals and vitamins in foods which are processed so if you are overweight and stressed from your lifestyle then bring back some discipline by exercising, eating fresh raw and lightly cooked vegetables and unprocessed nutritional food. Eat animal protein in small portions relative to your particular need.

4. Keep the intestines cleansed with plain yoghurt (especially the whey) and psyllium husk. Even Ancient Egypt`s Cleopatra exercised her own natural beauty regime. Part of that regime was to espouse to colonic cleansing through ingesting senna leaves, a mild herbal laxative. All of these suggestions will help keep your skin clear and create healthy, internal bacteria for absorbing minerals and vitamins but is a waste of time if you continue to add your daily addiction of processed coke and chips. In general we live in a society that is overfed and undernourished. So vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids are necessary for health and vitality. In fact, the break-down of collagen, caused by deficiency of vitamin C, is the main cause of deterioration in the processes and condition of the skin, consequently leading to premature aging. That means smoking is a no-no! Moderate exercise is naturally required to keep the body fit by improving circulation and tone.

It is important to understand what your body needs nutritionally as we all have differing requirements. Listening to what your body needs is often heightened during pregnancy and can often be seen in children who naturally enjoy healthy foods when not influenced and tempted by the all too frequent addition of sweets and processed convenience foods. 5. Finally, the body’s largest organ, the skin, needs to be cared for. Use quality aromatherapy skin care products that do not contain chemical and mineral fillers. Organically derived essential oils, essential cold-pressed carrier oils and vegetable based ingredients are far more efficacious and they do not artificially plump up the skin as do some chemical formulations. Once you stop using chemicals for a time in your beauty routine and your household you'll wonder how you ever tolerated their distinguishable artificial scent. Start by finding out what skin type you are eg. sensitive, normal, acneic/oily, dry or mature. Smooth onto your face aromatherapy cleansing lotion or facial cleansing scrub. Give yourself a facial sauna to help remove any built-up impurities in the skin pores. Add a drop of Roman Chamomile or Rose essential oil to a bowl of steaming hot water and inhale deeply to increase the relaxation physically and mentally thus enhancing the enjoyment of time-out! Following your facial sauna apply an aromatherapy toner suitable to your skin type by gently wiping it on with a cotton pad and then rinse your face with cold water to stimulate the circulation. A French Clay mask is also an effective way of toning the skin and contains natural minerals. Next, massage the face and neck with a facial treatment oil containing essential oils and cold pressed carrier oils specifically blended for your skin type. You can gently pat off any excess oil with a tissue and seal with a beautiful aromatherapy moisturiser. As you care for yourself you are creating a discipline for life. Voila! Balance and beauty!
